…He was born in Kyoto, and after serving as a councilor and Chunagon, he became a Buke Denso (military counselor) in 1693 (Genroku 6), Gon Dainagon (provisional chief counselor) in 1695, and was awarded the rank of Juichii (Junior First Rank) in 1712 (Shotoku 2). He was well versed in the classics and court etiquette, and in 1680 (Enpo 8) he became a disciple of Yamazaki Ansai and learned Suika Shinto. After Ansai's death in 1682 (Tenna 2), he became the center of the school, and Suika Shinto is sometimes called Ogimachi-ryu Shinto.
