An interval is a range on a number line or real axis. If two real numbers are a and b ( a < b ), then the set of real numbers x that satisfy the inequality a < x < b is called an open interval with a and b as its endpoints. In other words, it is an interval that does not include either of the endpoints ( a and b are called its endpoints). This is written as ( a , b ) or ] a , b [.
