In Chinese characters, it is called Okatsusi. It is also called the Gangdise Mountains. It runs parallel to the Himalayas in the southwestern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and forms the watershed between the Yarlungsuangbo River (Brahmaputra River) and the inland water system of the North Tibetan Plateau. It is 1500 km long. Its main peak is Lobo Peak (7095m). In the west is Kangrinboche (Kailash) Peak (6638m), a sacred mountain for Lamaism (Tibetan Buddhism) and Hinduism. Together with the nearby sacred lake Mapamyamtso (Lake Manasarovar), the area is a holy place for Hinduism, and pilgrims from India and other places visit it every year.

漢字では岡底斯。ガンディセ山脈ともいう。チベット自治区南西部をヒマラヤ山脈と並行して走り，ヤルンズアンボ川（ブラマプトラ川）と北チベット高原の内陸水系の分水嶺をなす。全長1500km。主峰はロボ峰（7095m）。西部にラマ教（チベット仏教）とヒンドゥー教の聖山カンリンボチェ（カイラス）峰（6638m）がある。近くの聖なる湖マパムヤムツォ（マーナサローワル湖）とともに一帯はヒンドゥー教の聖地となっており，毎年インドなどから巡礼が訪れている。
