San-she-fa (English spelling)

San-she-fa (English spelling)
The educational system of the Northern Song Dynasty in China. Considering that the imperial examinations for official promotion could select those with learning, but did not necessarily recruit people of character, in the first year of the Xining era (1068), Wang Anshi increased the number of students at the Taixue to 600 for the outer school, 200 for the inner school, and 100 for the upper school, and promoted them by examination from the outer school to the inner school, and from the inner school to the upper school, so that those with good results could be appointed as officials without going through the imperial examinations. Since there were three schools, the outer, inner, and upper school, this educational system was called the Sansha system. It was temporarily abolished during the old Fatang era, but it is said that during the reign of Huizong, the capacity of the school reached several thousand students.
