1508‐86 A Yugoslav humanists. Slovenian. He studied theology in Vienna. He was an early supporter of the Protestant Reformation and was exiled from the country several times. During this time he produced over 20 books in his own language in Trieste and other parts of Germany. He established the first Slovenian printing press in the country and organized a school. He continued to work hard to establish a literary language and develop literature, including co-translating the Bible, but most of his books were burned by the Counter-Reformation and only a few remain today.
