Anglican clergyman and theologian. After studying in Edinburgh and Scotland, he became the first director of the Student Christian Movement in England. He stayed in Lahore, India as director of the YMCA (1897-1900), and later became a clergyman. He organized and organized the Edinburgh World Mission Congress with JR Mott, and published the journal "International Review of Missions." From 1931 to 1938, he was the leader of the International Organization for African Languages ​​and Cultures, and from 1934 to 1938, he was chairman of the research department of the World Church Movement. He also played a leading role in the Oxford Conference, and was a key player in drafting the constitution for the World Council of Churches. His main works are "Church, Community and State" (35), "The Church as an Ecumenical Society" (37), and "New Hope in Africa" ​​(55).
