A stock investment bank founded in Paris in 1852 by the Jewish bankers Péreire brothers, known as Saint-Simonists. It is also known as the "Banque des Anglais." Under the patronage of Napoleon III, it grew rapidly in the 1850s, and was involved in the promotion of a wide variety of businesses, primarily railroads and banking, not only in France but also across the European continent, from Spain to Eastern Europe and Russia. However, in the 1860s, as competition with the international private banking group in Paris, led by the Rothschild & Co., intensified, the bank's business activities became more speculative and its management gradually deteriorated.

1852年に，サン･シモン主義者として知られるユダヤ系の銀行家ペレール兄弟がパリに創設した株式投資銀行。〈動産銀行〉とも呼ばれる。ナポレオン3世の庇護を受けて1850年代に急成長をとげ，フランス国内のみならず，スペインから東欧，ロシアに及ぶヨーロッパ大陸の広域で，鉄道および銀行を中心とする多様な業種の企業の発起に従事した。しかし，60年代に入って，ロスチャイルド商会を中心とするパリの国際的な個人銀行グループとの競争が激化するにしたがって，企業活動は投機的性向を強め，経営内容も次第に悪化した。
