Kaneseki Takeo - Kanesuke Takeo
Anthropologist and anatomist. Born in Kagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Kyoto Imperial University School of Medicine. After working as an assistant and assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy at the same university, he became a professor at Taipei Imperial University. In 1941, he founded the magazine Folk Taiwan with Kokubu Naoichi and Ikeda Toshio. After the war, he was retained at National Taiwan University by the Kuomintang government and contributed to laying the foundations for the Department of Anthropology. In 1950, he became a professor at Kyushu University School of Medicine. Since his days as an assistant at Kyoto University, he has been researching physical anthropology, establishing a broad field of anthropology that includes archaeology, ethnology, folklore, linguistics, and religious studies, and leaving behind original achievements based on his vast knowledge of literature and art from all over the world, past and present. He was knowledgeable about southern cultures such as Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa), and in his later years he worked on the origins of the Japanese people through research on human bones. He was awarded the Asahi Culture Prize. Kaneseki Tsuyoshi's Collected Works, all 12 volumes (Hosei University Press) have been published.

人類学者,解剖学者。香川県に生まれる。京都帝国大学医学部卒業。同解剖学教室助手,助教授を経て,台北帝国大学教授。1941年,国分直一,池田敏雄らと《民俗台湾》を創刊。戦後,国民党政府によって台湾大学に留用され,人類学教室の基礎づくりに貢献する。1950年,九州大学医学部教授。京大助手時代から自然人類学の研究に取り組み,考古学,民族学,民俗学,言語学,宗教学を射程に入れた,広範な人類学を打ち立て,古今東西の文学,美術に通じる博識をふまえて,独創的な業績を残した。台湾,琉球(沖縄)などの南方文化に詳しく,晩年は,人骨研究などから日本人の起源論に取り組んだ。朝日文化賞受賞。《金関丈夫著作集》全12卷(法政大学出版局)が刊行されている。
