Cultivation in soil - Koudobaiyo

Japanese: 耕土培養 - こうどばいよう

This is a new term that means to cultivate and nourish agricultural soil, but it has come into widespread everyday use with the implementation of the Soil Cultivation Project based on the Soil Cultivation Bill enacted in 1952. The main purpose of the Soil Cultivation Project is to maintain and increase the productivity of agricultural soil, and in particular, to prevent and improve acidic soil, rice paddy fields that fall off in the autumn, and soil that is lacking in phosphorus, which are widespread throughout the country and are the most important causes of poor soil, from a soil chemical perspective. The application of limestone fertilizers, siliceous fertilizers, magnesium fertilizers, and inorganic phosphate fertilizers to correct acidic soil, iron-containing materials such as limonite, iron powder, and iron-rich soil, and siliceous fertilizers to improve rice paddy fields that fall off in the autumn, solid fertilizers and non-sulfate root fertilizers that contain almost no sulfate to prevent rice paddy fall, and soluble phosphorus fertilizers and solid fertilizers to prevent soil that is lacking in phosphorus were recommended.

農耕地土壌を培い養うことを意味する言葉であるが，1952年に制定された〈耕土培養法案〉に基づく耕土培養事業の実施に伴いひろく日常的に使用されるようになった新語である。　耕土培養事業の主目的は，農耕地土壌生産力の維持増強，とくにさしあたっては，全国に広く分布し，不良土壌の最も重要な原因をなしている酸性土壌，水稲秋落ち田およびリン酸欠乏土壌の防止改善を土壌化学的見地から実施することにある。酸性土壌矯正のため石灰質肥料，ケイ酸質肥料，苦土肥料や無機質リン酸肥料を，秋落ち水田改良のため褐鉄鉱･鉄粉･肥鉄土などの含鉄物やケイ酸質肥料を，水稲秋落ち防止のため固形肥料および硫酸塩をほとんど含まない無硫酸根肥料を，リン酸欠乏土壌改良防止のため溶成リン肥や固形肥料などの施用をすすめた。
