抗生物質を含む化学療法剤の服用によって，これに感受性をもつ人体内の細菌が減少し，それらの細菌のために増殖をおさえられていた不感受性菌・耐性菌が異常に増殖して起こる症状。たとえば抗結核剤によって，カンジダやアスペルギルスなどのカビ類が肺・気道に増殖し（肺カンジダ症），赤痢・腸炎に対する抗生物質によって耐性ブドウ球菌が腸管内に増殖して下痢症状を起こすなどである。直ちに従来の化学療法剤の投与を中止し，これらのカビ類やブドウ球菌に少しでも有効な化学療法剤の投与を試みることが必要。
