Historian of the late Edo and Meiji periods. Born on September 14, Tempō 6, in Aburaya, Mito, Hitachi Province (Ibaraki Prefecture). His childhood name was Yasokichi. He studied under Fujita Toko and Aizawa Seishisai from an early age, and later served at the Shokokan in Mito. After the Meiji Restoration, he served at the Shushikan and was also involved in the compilation of the Dai Nihonshi in Mito. In 1892 (Meiji 25), he became a professor at the Faculty of Letters of the Imperial University, where he taught in the Department of National History. His books include Shoen Ko (Studies on Manors) and Shinsen Shojiroku Kosho (Studies on the Newly Selected Shojiroku), with Shoen Ko being regarded as a pioneering achievement in the study of socio-economic history in Japan. His writings are collected in the "Kuriri Sensei Miscellany" (3 volumes). He passed away on January 25, 1899. 幕末・明治期の歴史家。天保(てんぽう)6年9月14日常陸(ひたち)国(茨城県)水戸の油屋に生まれる。幼名八十吉(やそきち)。幼少より藤田東湖(とうこ)、会沢正志斎(あいざわせいしさい)らに学び、のち水戸の彰考館(しょうこうかん)に出仕。明治維新後は修史館(しゅうしかん)に出仕するとともに水戸の「大日本史」編纂(へんさん)にもかかわる。1892年(明治25)帝国大学文科大学教授となり国史学科で教鞭(きょうべん)をとる。著書に『荘園(しょうえん)考』『新撰姓氏録(しんせんしょうじろく)考証』などがあるが、『荘園考』は日本における社会経済史的研究の先駆的業績として評価されている。著作は『栗里先生雑著』(3冊)にまとめられている。明治32年1月25日没。 [永原慶二] 出典 小学館 日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)について 情報 | 凡例 |
