Kurita Tomitsu - Kurita Hijimaro
Year of death: 8th July 1811 (26th August 1811)
Year of birth: 1737
A Japanese classicist and poet of the mid-Edo period. Commonly known as Tamibu, his pen name was Okanoya. Born to a priest's family in Hirao Village, Shirokai County, Totomi Province (Kikugawa Town, Ogasa County, Shizuoka Prefecture). In 1767 he moved to Edo and became a pupil of Kamo no Mabuchi, and after Mabuchi's death he became a pupil of Motoori Norinaga, where he mastered traditional Japanese classics. His honest nature led him to focus on steady learning, and although not flashy, he produced many highly reliable research and miscellaneous notes. He also developed a penchant for waka poetry in the style of the Manyoshu under the influence of Mabuchi. His handwritten "Kurita Doman Eiso" is a valuable collection of his works from his later years. <References> Nakamura Yukihiko, "Collected Writings of Nakamura Yukihiko", Vol. 12
