...The three most typical are delirium tremens, alcohol-induced epilepsy-like convulsive seizures, and alcohol-induced hallucinations. Delirium tremens occurs after the sudden cessation of drinking, when consciousness becomes clouded and the patient experiences delirium accompanied by hallucinations of small animals such as insects and mice, and multiple conversational auditory hallucinations. Sometimes, there may be increased suggestibility, the Liebmann phenomenon in which visual hallucinations occur when the eyeballs are pressed, and occupational delirium in which the patient performs movements as if they are performing a familiar task.

In cases such as chronic alcoholism, when auditory hallucinations are severe and delusions occur, this is called alcoholic hallucinosis. Hallucinations are primarily auditory and visual hallucinations, while delusions are primarily delusions of persecution. This condition is seen not only in alcoholism, but also in cocaine addiction, stimulant drug addiction, and schizophrenia.
