Japanese: 岩戸遺跡 - いわといせき

A Paleolithic site located in Iwato, Usuo, Kiyokawa Village, Ono District, Oita Prefecture. The site is located on a terrace overlooking the Ono River, 32m above the current riverbed. Local researchers had previously collected stone tools, but in 1967, a formal excavation was carried out by Serizawa Chosuke, and the existence of three cultural layers, the first, second and third, was confirmed. The first cultural layer is thought to be above the Aira volcanic ash, which has its source in Kagoshima Prefecture, and is thought to date to more recent than 22,000 BC.

大分県大野郡清川村大字臼尾字岩戸にある旧石器時代の遺跡。遺跡は眼下に大野川をのぞむ段丘上にあり，現在の河床から比高32mの高さである。以前から地元の研究者によって石器類が採集されていたが，1967年に芹沢長介による正式の発掘が行われ，第1，第2，第3の三つの文化層の存在が認められた。第1文化層は鹿児島県に噴出源をもつ姶良（あいら）火山灰より上部と考えられ，年代は前2万2000年より新しいと考えられた。
