A figure in the Old Testament. Many people have the same name. All of them have unknown dates of birth and death. (1) Saul's eldest son. David's best friend. His father Saul was jealous of David's bravery and tried to kill him, but Jonathan loved David and interceded for him by explaining David's achievements, and later helped him escape (1 Samuel 19). David lamented the deaths of Saul and Jonathan in the war against the Philistines with a lament (2 Samuel 1). (2) Son of Gershom, son of Moses, and thus grandson of Moses. Jonathan and his descendants became priests for the tribe of the Danites (Judges 18:30). (3) Son of Jada, descendant of Judah (1 Chronicles 2:32). (4) Son of Shage the Hararite, a warrior in David's army (1 Chronicles 11:34). (5) David's uncle, scholar, and counselor (1 Chronicles 27:32). (6) Son of Uzziah. Administered the royal property of David (1 Chronicles 27:25). (7) Son of Abiathar, a descendant of Eli, who supported David. When Solomon contested with Adonijah for the throne, he and his father Abiathar sided with Adonijah and were exiled to Anathoth (1 Kings 2:26). (8) Son of Shimeah, David's brother. Defeated the Philistine giant at Gath (2 Samuel 21).

旧約聖書中の人物。同名者多数。すべて生没年は未詳。 (1) サウルの長子。ダビデの親友。父サウルはダビデの勇名をねたんで殺そうとしたが，ヨナタンはダビデを愛していたのでダビデの功績を説いてとりなし，のちには彼の逃亡を助けた (サムエル記上 19章) 。ダビデは対ペリシテ戦争で死んだサウルとヨナタンのために悲しみの歌をもって哀悼している (同下1章) 。 (2) モーセの子ゲルショムの子，つまりモーセの孫。ヨナタンとその子孫はダン人の部族の祭司となった (士師記 18・30) 。 (3) ユダの子孫ヤダの子 (歴代志上2・32) 。 (4) ダビデの軍団の勇士，ハラル人シャゲの子 (歴代志上 11・34) 。 (5) ダビデの叔父，学者，議官 (歴代志上 27・32) 。 (6) ウジヤの子。ダビデの王室の財産管理にあたった (歴代志上 27・25) 。 (7) エリの子孫アビヤタルの子で，ダビデを支持した。ソロモンがアドニアと王位を争うと父アビヤタルとともにアドニヤ側につき，アナトテに追放されたらしい (列王紀上2・26) 。 (8) ダビデの兄弟シメアの子。ガテでペリシテの巨人を倒した (サムエル記下 21章) 。
