This refers to art that uses various means to control artificial light and directly link it to human vision. Experimental works began to be created around 1920, and Moholy-Nagy's Light Space Modulator (1921-30) is particularly famous as a device that mechanically controls the properties of light, such as reflection, transmission, and refraction. Light art was also pursued in stage sets and experimental films. Thomas Wilfred (1889-1968), inventor of the Clavilux (1922), a light performance device, was also a pioneer.
