Drugs that improve or eliminate menstrual stagnation. Plant-based laxatives (such as aloe vera) have long been used to treat irregular menstruation, but their direct effectiveness is questionable. Follicle-stimulating hormones are sometimes used to stimulate the onset of menstruation. The term emmenagogues often refers to uterine stimulants and abortifacients such as ergot. 月経の停滞を改善，解消する薬。月経不順の際に昔から植物性の下剤 (アロエなど) が用いられているが，直接の効果は疑わしい。月経開始を促す目的では，卵胞刺激ホルモンなどが使用されることがある。俗にいう通経薬は，子宮刺激薬，麦角薬のような堕胎薬をさす場合が多い。
