Kura (English spelling)

Japanese: クラ[川](英語表記)Kura
Kura (English spelling)
A major river in the Transcaucasus region. It is 1,364 km long and has a drainage area of 188,000 km2. It flows north from its source in the Armenian Mountains (approximately 3,000 m above sea level) in Turkish territory, enters the Republic of Georgia, and then flows east. Its rapid currents deeply carve the mountains. After passing Gori and Tbilisi, the river valley opens up, and as it enters the Republic of Azerbaijan, it meanders through the dry steppes. In the middle reaches, the Mingechaur Reservoir and a power station were completed in the 1960s. In the lower reaches, it flows southeast through the Kura-Aras (Araks) Depression, joins the Aras River on the south bank, and forms a 100 km2 delta before flowing into the Caspian Sea.
