The Tale of the Sheep

Japanese: 公羊伝 - くようでん

Also called the "Spring and Autumn Annals: Gongyang Biography." Along with the "Gu Liang Biography" and the "Zuo Shi Biography," this is one of the three "Spring and Autumn Annals" commentaries. It is said to have been written by Gongyang Gao, a disciple of Zixia (a disciple of Confucius). It has 11 volumes. It is notable for its attempt to extract the underlying ideals from historical facts, which Confucius considers to have approved of the revolution and demonstrated the implementation of reform. This work gave rise to the study of Gongyang, which influenced the revolutions of the late Qing Dynasty.

《春秋公羊伝》ともいう。《穀梁伝》，《左氏伝》とともに《春秋》三伝の一つ。《春秋》の解釈書。子夏(しか)（孔子の門人）の弟子公羊高の撰と伝える。11巻。史実よりも，それに潜む理念を引き出そうとしたことが特色で，孔子はこれによって革命を是認し，改制の実行を示したものとみなす。本書より公羊学が起こり，清末の革命に影響した。
