...However, Prava only inserted things into the blood vessels of experimental animals, and the instrument used was not a hypodermic syringe. It is generally believed that the first person to actually perform an injection was Alexander Wood (1817-1887) of England in 1853. Later, J. Skoda developed a method for subcutaneous injection of digitalis and salicylic acid, and by the 1980s, intravenous injections were also being performed.
