Amaze

Japanese: 尼瀬 - あまぜ
Amaze

...A post town on the Hokkoku Kaido road, it flourished as a port for unloading gold from the Sado Gold Mine, and in the early modern period, it was also the location of a magistrate's office. In the Amise area on the western edge, the first well of Nippon Oil was excavated in 1888, and in 1890, Japan's first mechanized well was started. Although the oil resources have now been depleted, the Petroleum Memorial Museum has been built here as the birthplace of the petroleum industry.
