Year of birth: Unknown. A Heian period official and poet. One of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets. Known as Tonomine Shosho. Buddhist name: Nyokaku. Dogo: Jakushin. Son of Fujiwara no Michisuke and Emperor Daigo's daughter, Masako. His date of death is according to the Tonomine Ryakuki, but some say it was August 15, 4th year of the Kōhō era (September 21, 967, according to Danpo Engi Benmō), or before 985. He was appointed as Ukon'e Shosho and other positions, and showed his talent for poetry by performing a poem at the Shoshōkyō Banquet in 949. In 961, he became a monk at Yokokawa on Mount Hiei, and the following year he moved to Tonomine, the ancestral shrine of the Fujiwara clan, and established a hermitage there. The Tale of Tonomine Shosho is based on his departure from the priesthood, but the grief of his wife and his sister, Aiya, is moving. 平安時代の官人,歌人。三十六歌仙のひとり。多武峰少将と号す。法名如覚。道号寂真。藤原師輔と醍醐天皇皇女雅子の子。没年月日は『多武峰略記』によるが,康保4年8月15日(967.9.21,『談峰縁起便蒙』),寛和1(985)年以前,との説もある。右近衛少将などに任ぜられ,天暦3(949)年尚書竟宴の折に出詠するなど歌才を発揮した。応和1(961)年比叡山横川で出家,翌年藤原氏の祖廟地である多武峰に移り草庵を結んだ。『多武峰少将物語』は彼の出家を題材にするが,残された妻や彼の妹の愛宮の悲嘆には胸を打たれる。家集に『高光集』がある。<参考文献>山口博『王朝歌壇の研究/村上・冷泉・円融朝篇』
