A former town in Higashitagawa County in western Yamagata Prefecture. The western half is a rice paddy area in the southern part of the Shonai Plain, and the eastern half is the northwest foot of Mt. Gassan. Rice cultivation and fruit cultivation such as apples, grapes, pears, and persimmons are thriving. Livestock is also raised. Kurokawa is famous for Kurokawa Noh. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Tsuruoka City along with Atsumi Town in Nishitagawa County, Haguro Town in Higashitagawa County, Fujishima Town, and Asahi Village. 80.18 km2 .
