A village in Ena County, in the southeastern tip of Gifu Prefecture. Population 1,052 (1995). It is located on the north bank of the Yahagi River, and borders Aichi Prefecture to the south. Most of the village area is mountainous, part of the Tono Mountains, with settlements scattered in the small areas of lowland along the Yahagi River and its tributaries. The village's centre is Kawagado, near the confluence of the Yahagi River and Akechi River. Agriculture is centred around rice, konjac yam cultivation and livestock farming. The multi-purpose Yahagi Dam was built between 1966 and 1970, and the construction of the dam caused over 300 residents of the submerged areas to leave the village, accelerating depopulation.
