Diaspananthus uniflorus (Sch.‐Bip.) Kitam.

Japanese: クサヤツデ(草八手) - クサヤツデ（英語表記）Diaspananthus uniflorus (Sch.‐Bip.) Kitam.

It is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family found west of Kanagawa Prefecture, on the Pacific coast of the Kinki region, in Shikoku, and Kyushu, and is endemic to Japan (illustration). Its other name, Yoshinosou, comes from the fact that it is common in Mount Yoshino in Nara Prefecture, which is the center of its distribution, and its other names, Kusayatsude and Kanbokusou, come from the fact that its palmate leaves resemble those of the Fatsia japonica (Araliaceae) and the Kanboku (Caprifoliaceae). The rhizome grows horizontally, and the base of the previous year's flower stalk remains as a node. The leaves have long stalks and grow in large bundles from the base of the stem. In autumn, the flower stalks grow and produce large panicles.

神奈川県以西から近畿地方の太平洋側，四国，九州に分布するキク科の多年草で，日本特産である（イラスト）。別名のヨシノソウは分布域の中心といえる奈良県吉野山に多いところからつけられ，クサヤツデ，別名のカンボクソウは掌状の葉がヤツデ(ウコギ科)やカンボク(スイカズラ科)の葉に似ているところからつけられた。根茎は横にはい，前年の花茎の基部が節として残る。葉は長い柄があって，茎の基部から多数束生する。秋に花茎が伸び，大型の円錐花序をつける。
