Orchard soil - Juenchidojo

Japanese: 樹園地土壌 - じゅえんちどじょう

This refers to the soil of fields where perennial woody crops such as fruit trees, mulberries, and tea are grown. Fruit trees and mulberries generally have deep roots, so the effective soil layer is deep and it is desirable for the subsoil to have adequate pore space and good physical properties such as air permeability, water permeability, and water retention to allow for a wide distribution range of the roots. In Japan, orchard soil is often distributed on sloping land and is prone to soil erosion. For this reason, measures are taken such as terraced fields, contour planting, and covering the soil surface with coarse organic matter such as straw.

果樹，クワ，チャなど永年生の木本作物を対象として栽培している圃場（ほじよう）の土壌をいう。一般に果樹やクワはともに深根性であるので，有効土層が深く，根群の分布範囲を広げるため，下層土に適当な孔隙（こうげき）が分布し，通気性，透水性，保水性など物理的な性質が良好であることがのぞましい。日本の樹園地土壌は傾斜地に分布する場合が多く，土壌浸食をうけやすい。そのため，植付地を階段畑にしたり，等高線植えを行ったり，わらなどの粗大有機物で土壌表面を被覆するなどの手段がとられている。
