Japanese: 御散供 - おさご
Offering - Osago

...Rice offered to gods or Buddhas when visiting them, or scattered for the purpose of purification or exorcism. It is called sango (scattered offering), osago (scattered offering), uchimaki (scattered offering), etc., and rice wrapped in white paper with one end twisted is also called ohineri, so originally it meant rice offered to gods, but it came to be scattered to exorcise demons and evil spirits with the spiritual power of the rice. For example, a note to the prayer for the Otonohogai Festival in the Engishiki states that rice was scattered in the birthing house at the time of birth, purifying the birthing house with the spiritual power of the rice.
