Quetta - English spelling: Quetta

It is the capital of Baluchistan province in western Pakistan. Its population was 560,307 (1998), 1,001,205 (2017 census). The name comes from the Pashto word kawata, meaning fortress. It is located on a dry plateau at an altitude of about 1,600 meters. It is at the crossroads of the transportation routes from Afghanistan in the north and Iran in the west to the Indus River valley, making it a strategic military and trade location. There are many orchards for grapes, pomegranates, and other fruits in the surrounding area, and food, chemical, and textile industries are also located there. There are coalfields in Dehgari to the southeast.

パキスタン西部、バルーチスターン州の州都。人口56万0307（1998）、100万1205（2017センサス）。地名はパシュトー語のカワター（城塞(じょうさい)の意）に由来する。標高約1600メートルの乾燥した高原上に位置する。北のアフガニスタン、西のイランからインダス川の河谷に至る交通路の交点にあり、軍事上、交易上の要衝を占めてきた。周辺はブドウ、ザクロなどの果樹園が多く、食品、化学、繊維などの工業も立地する。南東方のデーガリには炭田がある。
