Anglican Reconstruction Movement

…the movement to reform the Church of England was carried out by Anglican clerical theologians associated with Oxford University in the first half of the 19th century. At the time, the Church of England was in a state of crisis due to the laxity of discipline, the influence of theological liberalism, and the growing power of the Catholic Church. However, a sermon entitled "National Apostasy" by John Keble (1792-1866) at Oxford (14 July 1833) sparked a movement to reform and reconstruct the Church of England in accordance with the high church ideals held up by 17th century Anglican theologians.
