This refers to a case where a person actively tells fictitious things as if they were true, and while behaving in a realistic manner, comes to believe that the person himself is true. It was described by A. Delbrück (1891). Mythomanie, described by E. Dupré in 1905, is a similar concept. It is seen in exhibitionistic, hysterical personality disorders. People tell fantastical stories, mixing fact and fiction, about themselves as famous people, members of the royal family, aristocrats, very wealthy people, inventors, geniuses, master thieves, or people with extraordinary destinies, which can lead to fraud.
