Criticism of the "Bukkunden"

Japanese: 《武訓伝》批判 - ぶくんでんひはん

A criticism movement against the film The Story of Wu Xun, which was released in China in December 1950. Wu Xun was a real person who lived in Shandong Province in the 19th century. He was praised during the Republic of China as a "righteous man in the education world" who worked hard to build a school and contributed to educating the people, and the film is said to have portrayed him in a positive light. However, doubts about Wu Xun's actions were raised one after another from around March 1951, and on May 20 of that year, the People's Daily published an editorial (revealed in 1967 as the author being Mao Zedong) stating that "the debate over the film The Story of Wu Xun should be taken seriously," and dispatched a "Wu Xun History Research Team" to Shandong in collaboration with the government's Ministry of Culture.

中国で1950年12月に公開された映画《武訓伝》に対する批判運動。武訓は19世紀に山東省で実在した人物。苦労を重ねて学校を建て，民衆教育に貢献した〈教育界の義人〉として民国時代にたたえられ，映画もそれを肯定的に描いていたといわれる。しかし武訓の行為に対する疑問が51年3月ごろから次々に提起され，同年5月20日付《人民日報》は，〈映画《武訓伝》の討論は重視すべきである〉という社説(1967年に執筆者は毛沢東と公表)を発表，政府文化部と合同で〈武訓歴史調査団〉を山東へ派遣した。
