Kinrande - Kinrande

Japanese:
Kinrande - Kinrande

This refers to colored porcelain with gold leaf designs, also known as Gosai. The gorgeous color effect of decorating ceramics with gold leaf designs was already used on earthenware during the Tang dynasty, but the gold leaf design firing technique attempted at the Ding kiln during the Northern Song dynasty is considered to have been the first to be used on porcelain. After the Yuan dynasty, Jingdezhen kilns also produced gold brocade-style ware. In particular, during the Jiajing period of the Ming dynasty (1522-66), the gorgeous decorative method of firing gold leaf designs onto white porcelain five-color ground became popular, and this type of porcelain came to be known in Japan as gold brocade-style ware. This Kajing Kinrande style became very popular in Japan in the mid-Edo period, in the 18th century, and became all the rage. Imari ware also followed this style and created its own unique Imari Kinrande style, which became a huge hit.
