A former town in Aida County, eastern Okayama Prefecture. The area is centered on the valley plains of the Yoshino River and Yamaga River, tributaries of the Yoshii River, and the Kishin Line and National Route 179 (Izumo Kaido) run parallel to it. Emi, in the center, developed as a distribution center for goods transported by water on the Yoshino River, and Doi as a key location on the Izumo Kaido. The town produces rice, tobacco leaves, tea, and vegetables, and also engages in dairy farming and beef cattle raising. In March 2005, it merged with Katsuta Town in Katsuta County, Ohara Town in Aida County, Mimasaka Town, Aida Town, and Higashiawakura Village to become a city, Mimasaka City. Area: 109.03 km2 .
