Downing, G.

…The name of a street in the Westminster district of London, England. A small alleyway running west from Whitehall Road, which runs from Trafalgar Square to the Houses of Parliament. It was named after George Downing (1623-84), a 17th century diplomat and politician. Number 10 is the residence of the Prime Minister, as well as the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so the street name is synonymous with the British government.
