Forbidden secrets - Kinpisho

Japanese: 禁秘抄 - きんぴしょう
Forbidden secrets - Kinpisho

Written by Emperor Juntoku. 2 or 3 volumes. Originally it had no fixed title, but was called "Juntokuin Gosho", "Kenryaku Goki", "Kinchu Sho", etc., and was given its current title during the Nanboku-cho period. The book contains an explanation in Chinese of about 90 items of the customs and manners of the Imperial Court, including the Kashikodokoro, with references to many classical texts. It may have been written for his son Emperor Chukyo in 1221 (Shokyu 3). It has been highly valued since ancient times as an excellent historical resource for learning about the Imperial Court from the Heian to the early Kamakura periods, and there are many copies, as well as published versions, such as the Keian edition and the edition included in Gunsho Ruiju. Annotated versions include "Kinpisho Kaitei" (1776) by Shigenoi Kinkazu, a nobleman of the Edo period.
