An Indian Buddhist treatise written by Vasubandhu (who lived around the 5th century). Sanskrit name: Abhidharmakośabhāṣya. Abbreviated as 《Kusha-ron》. Two versions remain: the Sanskrit version, a Tibetan translation, and a Chinese translation. Of the Chinese translations, the 22-volume translation by Zhenji (564) and the 30-volume translation by Xuanzang (651), the latter is the one that is mostly used. It summarizes the basic issues of Buddhist philosophy, focusing mainly on the theories of the Sarvastivada school and adding those of other schools. It consists of eight sections, with the sections on the Realm and Roots explaining basic categories, the sections on the World, Karma, and Sleep elucidating the world of delusion, and the sections on the Wisdom, Wisdom, and Concentration explaining the path to enlightenment.
