A Paleolithic site in the Dordogne department in southwestern France. Excavated in 1894 by E. Rivière of France, and from 1908 to 1914 by J. G. Lalanne of France, four female reliefs (so-called "Venus figures") and one male relief were unearthed. All of the female reliefs, including the famous "Venus with a horn cup" (40 cm high), are nude, with breasts, abdomen, and buttocks strongly emphasized. Lalanne said that the figure, with its two heads facing in opposite directions, represents sexual intercourse or childbirth, while S. Giedion said that it is a hermaphrodite.

フランス南西部，ドルドーニュDordogne県にある旧石器時代の遺跡。1894年にフランスのリビエールE.Rivièreが，1908‐14年にフランスのラランヌJ.G.Lalanneが発掘し，4個の女性浮彫(いわゆる〈ビーナス像〉)と1個の男性浮彫が出土した。有名な〈角杯をもつビーナス像〉(高さ40cm)をはじめ，女性浮彫はすべて裸で，乳部，腹部，臀部が著しく強調されている。二つの頭部が反対方向を向く像について，ラランヌは性交または出産をあらわすといい，S.ギーディオンは両性具有像であるという。
