At points where air currents converge (convergence zones), such as fronts, the air rises and forms clouds, creating a wide band of clouds.
[Vortex cloud]
Around the center of a low pressure system (including typhoons), the air rotates and rises, causing vortex clouds to appear. In typhoons, the spiral bands can be seen on a spectacularly large scale.
