Avidin

A protein found in egg white that binds specifically and strongly to biotin. It consists of four subunits with biotin-binding sites. The avidin-biotin reaction is faster than the antigen-antibody reaction, so it is used to separate biological components by affinity chromatography and to detect biological components with high sensitivity by labeling them with biotin instead of radiolabeling. 卵白中に含まれるタンパク質で，ビオチンと特異的かつ強力に結合する．ビオチン結合サイトを有するサブユニット4個からなる．アビジン-ビオチンの反応は抗原抗体反応に比べて速いので，アフィニティークロマトグラフィーによる生体成分の分離や放射標識のかわりにビオチン標識することにより，生体成分を高感度で検出することなどに利用されている．[CAS 1405-69-2]
