A former town in Kuga County in eastern Yamaguchi Prefecture. It occupies the middle reaches of the Nishiki River and is mostly mountainous. Farmland is scattered on the mountain slopes, producing rice, chestnuts, and plums. The Kawayama Mine, which produced copper and iron sulfide ore, closed in 1971. The Nishiki River Railway runs through the town. There is a habitat for the Japanese bush frog (a natural monument) in Nagwa. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Iwakuni City along with the towns of Yu, Kuga, Shuto, Nishiki, Miwa, and Hongo in Kuga County. 75.85 km2 . 1,806 people (2003).

In February 2005, it merged with Matto City, Ishikawa County's Tsurugi Town, Kawachi Village, Yoshinotani Village, Torigoe Village, Oguchi Village, and Shiramine Village to become Hakusan City. 9.12 km2 . 石川県南部,手取(てどり)川河口両岸を占める石川郡の旧町。主集落は江戸時代には本吉といい,日本海の要港であった。北陸本線,北陸自動車道が通じ,繊維工業が盛んなほか,仏壇・刺繍(ししゅう)品を特産する。2005年2月松任市,石川郡鶴来町,河内村,吉野谷村,鳥越村,尾口村,白峰村と合併し市制,白山市となる。9.12km2。1万3268人(2003)。
