Amazon

Japanese: アマゾン
Amazon
In Greek legend, a race of female warriors (plural: Amazones) who lived along the Black Sea coast. They mated with foreign men at certain times and gave birth to children, but castrated or killed the boys and raised only the girls. They were called Amazons (without breasts) because they cut off their right breasts to make it easier to shoot their bows. They rode on horseback and used bows, axes, spears, and special shields, and built cities throughout Ionia. During the Trojan War, Queen Penthesilea led troops to aid the Trojans, but was defeated by Achilles.
