Ahamkara (English spelling)

Japanese: アハンカーラ（英語表記）ahaṃkāra

In Sanskrit, it is translated into Chinese as "patience." It is a term used in the Samkhya school, one of the six schools of Indian philosophy. It means self-consciousness. It arises as a result of the development of the fundamental thinking function buddhi (awakening). It is a purely material organ, made up of three components triguṇa, and is characterized by attachment to the self. It is because of ahamkara that people have a self-centered view. It is said that this kind of self-consciousness is the cause of our reincarnation, as it mistakes the material buddhi for the self.
