It is an evergreen shrub of the Sapindaceae family that grows to a height of 3-6m and is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, often growing on coasts, wastelands, and dry ridges. It also grows wild in the Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands of Japan. The branches are slightly angular. Young branches and leaves are densely covered with glandular dots and have sticky surfaces. The leaves are almost stalkless, narrowly lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, 4-15cm long and 0.5-3cm wide, entire, and alternate. The flowers are small, pale green-yellow. 高さ3~6mになるムクロジ科の常緑低木で,世界の熱帯~亜熱帯に広く分布し,海岸や荒廃地,乾いた尾根筋などによく生育する。日本でも琉球,小笠原に自生する。枝はやや角ばる。若枝や葉には腺点が密布し,表面が粘る。葉はほとんど柄がなく,長さ4~15cm,幅0.5~3cmの狭披針形~楕円状披針形,全縁で,互生する。花は淡緑黄色の小花。雄花と両性花が頂生する短い円錐花序に雑居する。花弁はなく,萼片4~5枚,おしべ8本。
