Greek War of Independence - Greek War of Independence
A war fought between 1821 and 1829. Greece, under the control of the Ottoman Empire, rebelled in the Peloponnese in 1821 and declared independence the following year. The Ottoman Empire tried to suppress the rebellion with the help of Egypt, but Britain, France, and Russia interfered. The Triple Fleet defeated the Ottoman forces in the Battle of Navarino. Independence was recognized in the Treaty of Adrianople in 1829, and Greece became an independent kingdom the following year.
