This is a dance song that was popular from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the early modern period. It sings of the Ohara women of Yase, Kyoto, who are also mentioned in medieval short songs, and spread to various provinces along with the popularity of Furyuu dance from the late Middle Ages. It was also danced by the Okuni of Izumo, before Kabuki dance was founded. It has lyrics such as "Though I have no musk or incense, what I smell is the burden of roasting." Fragments of this song were incorporated into popular songs from the Edo period and passed down for a long time. [Ogasawara Kyoko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
