Also written as Yeon Gaesomun, he appears in the Nihon Shoki, in the entry for the first year of the reign of Emperor Kōgyoku (642), as Iri Kasumi, who murdered the great king. He was of noble birth, and in 642 he murdered King Yeongryū and the ministers, and placed the king's nephew, Kō, on the throne (King Treasure). …
