Awa [village] - Aba

Japanese: 阿波[村] - あば
Awa [village] - Aba
A village in Tomata County, at the northern tip of Okayama Prefecture. Population 711 (1995). Located in the headwaters of the Kamo River, a tributary of the Yoshii River, most of the village area is mountainous, part of the Chugoku Mountains. Mount Daigasen, on the border with Kamo Town, is a semi-plain with a gentle plateau at an altitude of about 900m. Forestry is the main industry, with a large amount of cedar wood produced, and a main forest road runs through the national forest area on the prefectural border with Tottori. The Kamo Valley from Kamo Town to this village was an agriculturally poor area, and in the late modern period, peasant uprisings occurred frequently, and the area was also called "Kyoso Valley."
