A city on the Saguenay River in southern Quebec, Canada. Population 18,448 (1971). 177 km north of Quebec. Importing bauxite and producing aluminum with abundant hydropower, it is nicknamed "Aluminum City." Planned and built in 1926 by the Alcan Aluminum Company of Canada, the city's name comes from the name of the company's president at the time, Arthur Vining Davis. カナダ,ケベック州南部,サグネイ河畔の都市。人口1万8448(1971)。ケベックの北方177km。ボーキサイトを輸入し,豊富な水力でアルミニウムを生産し,〈アルミニウム市〉の異名をもつ。1926年アルカンAlminium Company of Canadaによって計画的につくられた都市で,市名は当時の社長の名Arthur Vining Davisに由来する。会社と住民の協議により管理される都市として有名。
