A city on the Saguenay River in southern Quebec, Canada. Population 18,448 (1971). 177 km north of Quebec. Importing bauxite and producing aluminum with abundant hydropower, it is nicknamed "Aluminum City." Planned and built in 1926 by the Alcan Aluminum Company of Canada, the city's name comes from the name of the company's president at the time, Arthur Vining Davis.
