Along with Yājñavalkya, he is one of the greatest thinkers in the Upanishads of ancient India. His birth and death years are unknown. His ideas are mainly conveyed in the Chandogya-upaniṣad, especially in chapter 6, in the form of teachings to his son Śuvēketu. According to this, in the beginning, the universe was only made up of Sat, but Sat created fire, water, and food, and entered into these three as Atman (self), blending them together to create the name Nāma and the form Rūpa (phenomenal world).
