Kyo-child - Today's child

Japanese: 京童 - きょうわらべ
Kyo-child - Today's child

Kanazoshi (Japanese folklore book). Six volumes and six books. Written by Nakagawa Kiun. Published in 1658 (Manji 1). An enlightening geographical guide that covers about 88 places, including famous historical sites, shrines and temples in and around Kyoto city, and describes and explains their origins, legends and current status. While it is practical as a guide to famous places, it also has entertainment value that will attract the reader's interest, with Nakagawa's original kyoka (comic poems) and hokku (poems) added throughout and illustrations for each article. It is a notable work as a precursor to the subsequent "Meisho-ki" (records of famous places).
